We continue with the trilogy about the death and resurrection of Krautrock. After the first part "The Death And Resurrection Of Krautrock: AUM" released in 2011 Seven That Spells now present part two: Subtitles this time: "IO". Like the first part the album starts with "In" and ends with "Out". The psychedelic band from Croatia, founded in 2003, mixes math rock with Captain Beefheart structures on "In II".

Is this band an enrichment or is it just shameless? This question must be allowed on the second album of the British all-star combo Halo Blind, because there has certainly been no other band in the last 15 years that has managed to record an album so close to Radiohead's work in the mid-90s. There were voices that accused the British New Artrock institution of having sacrificed their sense of melodies to a blind experimental mania after "The Bends", at the latest after "OK Computer".

After his restrained solo debut "Blunderbuss" Jack White finally shows himself in all the splendour of his ingenuity. The sound world of "Lazaretto" is deeply rooted in the seventies. Blues rock bands like the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin or Cream have been godfathers, but also the suspended Memphis Blues has left its mark. Every now and then the playful brilliance of White flashes up, but needle-sharp guitar provocations like with the White Stripes clamp the mature bard.

At the beginning there is a bitter parody of the Velvet underground song "Candy Says": "Alan Vega Says" describes how the suicide front man supposedly approaches songwriting, and the cynic of British pop, Luke Haines, doesn't leave good hair on him. Neither is Lou Reed, the New York Dolls or the underground poet Jim Carroll. Or is "New York In The '70s" more about the transfiguration of a pop-cultural scene, a transfiguration that Haines emphasizes in his songs as superficial and striking?

Three years ago the band from Atlanta had developed a bit more towards simpler structures with "The Hunter", but at the same time they had carved out some irresistible Hammersongs. The new sixth Mastodon studio album can't quite keep up. The conditions were better than ever: "The Hunter" the band lifted the success ladder a few steps higher and the straggler of the "New Wave Of American Heavy Metal" had become a real heavyweight.
