Trip in Trance - MONOMYTH explores itself and a strange planet

With the third longplayer "Exo" the Stoner psych space band Monomyth finishes their trilogy, according to official sources. Trilogy? This has not actually been mentioned so far. Sander Evers, drummer of the Dutch instrumental formation, now puts the releases into context: "With our debut 'Monomyth' we started to explore myths and fictions on our own planet, but in the end we looked at the stars. Further' was the introduction of our spaceship, some maps and a destination we wanted to travel to. On 'Exo' we finally reach it, land on the alien planet and begin to explore it. Yes, travel and explore - that's what this trilogy is about."

Monomyth also scout out their own music and test with each album what styles their music is capable of recording and processing. So on "Exo" some tracks astound with hardrock or ambient, others even with dance or soul borrowings and make the already exuberant mix of Stoner, Space Rock, Psych, Minimal Music, Techno, Electronica and Kraut even more colourful. "But it is not clear or predictable which of us will bring which influences to the table," explains Evers. "That varies from piece to piece. We always start with small ideas, where everyone can influence how they develop. Ultimately, we let the song guide us."

The result can be quite hypnotic. Just listen to the rolling "LHC". "Every piece has a trance effect," says Evers. "For this we work with repetitive riffs, corresponding sounds and with numerous layers with which we enrich our songs. But live the whole thing is even more hypnotic." Does a musician have to fall into a trance himself? "There are parts in our music where we can drop. But this must be done in a controlled manner. You need control to create trance in other trances. But when everything comes together, it's like it makes the whole band take off in a kind of bubble - a very special experience."
