THE DREAM SYNDICATE - New Start in Psychedelic Jazz

It has been a long time since Dream Syndicate, with their special mixture of garage rock, country folk and psychedelic, not only provided the models for guitar bands like Sonic Youth or the Pixies, but also anticipated the whole field of tension from British Shoegaze to American Dreampop. Almost 30 years after their dissolution the Dream Syndicate is now back with the album "How Did I Find Myself Here?" and sounds better and more aggressive than ever. Serenity and strength have long ceased to be in harmony with poetry and an almost natural balance of all elements. Since then Wynn has regularly produced records in all conceivable constellations.

Bands like Gutterball or the duo Danny & Dusty, which is run by the Syndicate drummer, are still in best memory. But what made him bring back the Dream Syndicate now? "We haven't played as Dream Syndicate for so long that we are a whole new band for most listeners. So it doesn't make sense to go back to our old exploits. Of course we are happy when our old fans remember us, but it is at least as much about the new listeners. We have no idea if we'll be able to make that serve. Live it's no problem, we play the old songs, and the fans go for it. But band reunions are always around. We want more. It's not just a reunion, it's the second time we start all over again."

Steve Wynn and his playmates are all about making the record with the 1984 attitude that is valid for today. This may sound absurd, but exactly the same was Slowdive's secret formula, which has some similarities with Dream Syndicate. Wynn and Co. enjoy the privilege of not exposing themselves to any pressure. In the last decade and a half, the guitarist and singer has appeared primarily with his band The Miracle 3, and Dream Syndicate could well pass as a new offshoot of this band today. But the songwriter strictly rejects this. "If I had wanted to make a new album like The Miracle 3, I would have done just that. Dream Syndicate is about a special DNA I only have with Mark Walton and Dennis Duck. The focus is not on what we played, but on how it felt. I know exactly what that means, because I was there then. I wasn't interested in anything but this band."
