SPOCK’S BEARD - Der lange Lauf zu sich selbst

Promotion is a necessary evil for musicians. For the interview with eclipsed Spock's Bears bassist Dave Meros even interrupts his afternoon walk. On May 25th the Californians release their 13th studio album "Noise Floor" plus an EP with four more songs. Meros explains why he thinks this is a good idea, reflects on how Spock's Beard have developed over the 26 years of their existence, and explains whether and how things will continue with old and new drummer Nick D'Virgilio.

If you imagine the career of Spock's Beard as a jogging track, then after a few mountains and valleys it's now a long way on a straight track. In the now already a quarter of a century lasting career of the US Progger the next part opened at the end of May, the release of their 13th studio album "Noise Floor". Then Ted Leonard, Alan Morse, Dave Meros, Ryo Okumoto and Nick D'Virgilio return to the place where they left off with "The Oblivion Particle" three years ago. "Yes, we think so too," confirms bassist and hobby runner Dave Meros. "We have received very good reactions, which of course we are very happy about. Some even think it's a revolutionary album - the best we've recorded since Neal [Morse] left. But for us it's above all a continuation of what we've done so far, the next album in a row. That makes sense to me."

The 62-year-old has always grown tired of exaggerating the current work as the best ever: "It's difficult for us to estimate that. We're in too deep for that. We can only wait and see what others say about it, and then agree or disagree
" Crazy new forks are not (anymore) to be expected from Spock's Beard. Californians like to move along familiar paths and don't want to be stretched out in front of every cart. "Of course, you always try to win new listeners. But we have been there for a long time and are well received by a certain clientele. And we don't want to lose them again."
