If guitars would resonate here, "Mima" would be the most sublime Shoegazing ever. On his third album as Petrels Oliver Barrett creates true monuments in sound via keyboards and electronics, which build up into unmanageable cathedrals. The four epic tracks (if you can call lengths of eight to fifteen minutes epic) are again based on a futuristic concept. "Mima" is the thinking machine from the science fiction work "Aniara" by the Swedish Nobel Prize winner Harry Martinson, which is brought to musical life by means of exciting sounds never heard before. While in the prologue "The 40 Year Mission To Titan Is Overtaken By The 40 Minute Mission To Titan" there are still harsh soundscapes that are dragging along the borders of industrial music, in the following sound monoliths "Katharina -22B", "A Carapace For Carter's Snort" and "Treetiger" unfolding, almost divine harmonies are reigning step by step, which spread out in a true Wall Of Sound and open up new dimensions.
