JOHN BAINZLEY, NATE HALL & MIKE SCHEIDT - Songs Of Townes Van Zandt - Vol II.

Kategorie: CD-Reviews | Genre: Singer-Songwriter | Heft: Jahrgang 2014, eclipsed Nr. 160 / 5-2014 | VÖ-Jahr: 2014 | Wertung: 7/10 | Label: My Proud Mountain | Autor: SaS

Townes Van Zandt became - especially after his death - a singer-songwriter legend. But while his name is known to many people, his songs remained unknown. After two years ago the strange concept of a tribute album, in which a small number of musicians interpreted songs by Van Zandt over an entire album, was well received, the label My Proud Mountain is now going into the second round with new artists. This time with the party: John Baizley (Baroness), Nate Hall from the psychedelic rockers US Christmas and Mike Scheidt from Yob. Especially the use of Baizley is surprising as his main band has become known for ambitious progressive stoner rock in the last years. But just like the otherwise electrified Nate Hall, Baizley makes a good impression in this reduced atmosphere, which usually only allows an acoustic guitar next to the voice. The question remains why you shouldn't go for a Van Zandt record right away, but nevertheless: a successful album that will hopefully draw the attention of many people to Van Zandt's music.
