Joel Thibodeau, who is behind the Death Vesels project, sings with a very high, almost squeaky voice, so that one first thinks of a female vocalist. But for the musician this is part of his concept: He wants to attract attention with his voice and force the listener to deal intensively with the songs already after the first sounds. Thibodeau also succeeds musically on his third album: his songs are melancholic, but at the same time they are blown through by a certain psychedelic spirit. This is primarily due to the unusual sound worlds he creates again and again: there are rattling background noises or a nervous vibration to be heard; one is never sure whether an instrument is about to start or whether the whole thing simply remains an impressive background noise. The result is a slightly disturbing, but always very harmonious atmosphere. Whether one can become friends with the singing style, however, must decide everyone for itself. But testing is definitely worth it.
