Rock Candy Funk Party - these are Tal Bergman, Ron DeJesus, Joe Bonamassa, Renato Neto, Mike Merritt and Daniel Sadownick, who have set themselves the goal of resurrecting the cool Seventies funk and groovy Blaxploitation sounds. This means wah-wah attacks, razor-sharp rhythms, a relaxed yet offensive attitude and of course the sounds of a Fender Rhodes. Such projects are actually doomed to failure due to a lack of authenticity, but Rock Candy Funk Party has succeeded in producing a great album whose material comes from six gigs at New York's Iridium Club. Jazz funk numbers ("Octopus-e"), offensive and sexy funk ("We Want Groove"), fast funk with Latin influences ("Spaztastic") and a 15-minute version of Miles Davis' "One Phone Call" come casual, whipping or groovy. Secret recipe: Here plays a sworn band and no formation of solo artists. The limited edition comes in a large-format cardboard sleeve and contains the two CDs, a 138-minute DVD (alternatively: Blu-ray) and a booklet.
