Etta James is one of those artists who broke away from the blues and integrated rock'n'roll, rhythm'n'blues and soul into their sound. Her third album Etta James (1962) contained the sexy version of Willie Dixon's "Spoonful", Rhythm'n'Blues, in which her screams were optimally staged ("Something's Got A Hold On Me") and also a ballad ("My Dear"), with which she underlined her amazing versatility. Sings Songs For Lovers (1962), recorded with a big band, documented their light, easy-going side, but lacked a little depth. This is compensated in the new release by seven bonus tracks, which present the lady in a blues context. The issue contains a 16-page booklet with detailed liner notes and numerous photos.
