PONTIUS SNIBB - Wreck Of Blues

Kategorie: CD-Reviews | Genre: Blues/Bluesrock | Heft: Jahrgang 2014, eclipsed Nr. 161 / 6-2014 | VÖ-Jahr: 2014 | Wertung: 5/10 | Label: Off Yer Rocka | Autor: AT

Guitarist and singer Pontius Snibb (among others Bonafide) has fulfilled his wish to start a blues rock project with this album. The man, who despite having enough space on the Digipak cover doesn't show his fellow musicians, delivers standard blues rock, which he could have refined with his excellent vocals, if it weren't for those emotionless guitar solos that drift the whole thing into triviality. The uniform production also lacks highs and lows, as "Colleague Compressor" rather flattens the sound. When Snibb acts a bit more relaxed like in the country blues shuffle "Lightnin' Change", a mood comes up, which also applies to the soulful acoustic blues "I'm Walking", which turns into a rocker, as well as to the jazz blues "Turning Back The Clock". The "Keep On Loving Me" influenced by Hendrix, on the other hand, reveals another shortcoming: a lack of authenticity. Snibb may have fulfilled a long-cherished wish with this record to perform the style optimally, but he still hasn't succeeded in doing so.
