Trophy Scars have achieved a respectable over-status with their previous records and especially their last and third oeuvre "Never Born, Never Dead" in the hardcore metier. Now the quintet from New Jersey surprises with their latest album "Holy Vacant". Hardcore can only be found here, if at all, in homeopathic doses. "Holy Vacant is a fundamental redefinition of the Trophy Scars. And she comes with violins and trumpets. The work is based on a 35 page script by singer Jerry Jones. Trophy Scars and a concept album? Yeah, that works. The band comes with such a cross-genre stylistic variety that you have to convince yourself that this is really the band that was once responsible for sweaty Moshing. There are Gospel and Tom-Waits-Soul ("Gutted"), Tool-iges ("Burning Mirror") and manic Bluesrock ("Qeres") all together. And the gospel rocker "Everything Disappearing" seems like an outtake from a Led Zep session.
