With "Meridians" Franz Kirmann, who is actually one half of the Abstract-Scape-Duo Piano Interrupted, brings his second solo album onto the market. It was staged much more consistently than the debut "Random Access Memories", which was created over a long period of time. Here, the artist unravels seemingly familiar schemes, only to reassemble them in an abstract manner. This creates a kind of interesting déjà-vu: everything is so well known and yet so far away. The tracks condense from an almost homely abstract to wide soundscapes, which are not only good for the movie in your head, but could be good for much more. The musician has been taken with cult directors such as David Lynch and Michelangelo Antonioni. Accordingly, Kirmann's scores seem almost predestined for widescreen cinema. "Dancing On The Edge Of The Void" is a striking example of this, which in a fascinating way transforms itself from brittle sound art into pathetic grandeur, which also dominates the scene majestically from time to time.
