The main thing is that it was fun - that's the impression The Staches give with their debut album "Machine". This is also the strength of the ten songs that don't dig deep, but pick up what 60's beat, 70's punk and 80's indie have left behind. In "Quick Death" the two art students and two musicians from Geneva put on a slow but violent country rock until the end of the day the post goes out, beat a cheeky beat with "Shoes On" and let it crash hard in "Song They Taught Us". "Something Tricky" comes along acoustically, "Lighter Girl" surprises with funny clattering percussion. The theme song is a cool, ripped-off rocker. The slightly galloping groove in "The Strangest" is truly charming. Here it rumbles, there it is cheeky and snotty. There seems to be a lot of irony at "Machine". Self-irony, of course, which never hurts. But something is still missing from the songs: the moment when the fun turns into a little euphoria.
