The Rostock band Bad Penny indulges in Celtic-Nordic folk rock. The opener "Motherless Child" is correspondingly scratchy. Surprisingly then in the beautiful title track (at the end again contained in a longtrack version) the spherical keyboards and the lounge-like atmosphere with piano and fat string synths, where you almost approach Roxy Music. With "Spanish Rose" the classical acoustic folk sky is intact again, when accordion and acoustic guitar conjure up a mood like in a Mink DeVille classic. "Don't Be A Copy", a denial of the mechanisms of industrialization, gently organizes itself into the auditory canals. It is only in "Marble City Bar" that you can hear the distinctive signs of Irish folk music with bagpipe sounds and violin. A wonderful tribute to the great songwriter Jackie Leven, who wrote this piece. On "I Play Just What I Feel" you treat yourself to an extended blues. "What Is Love" combines wavy synthie sounds with folkpunk. The versatile album is a cornucopia of different sounds and styles, packed in airy folk rock.
