The German guitar trio project enters its third round. Three years ago Gregor Hilden was still in the boat for the debut album "The Vineyard Sessions". The second stroke "The Vineyard Sessions Vol. II" was played by slide specialists Richie Arndt and Timo Gross with the ex-Atlantis and Lake string magician Alex Conti. The result is again a harmonious mixture of Blues- and Rootsrock, presented with acoustic instruments. Amazing how unagitated, but nevertheless gripping the original compositions of the three guitarists and singers come along, divided equally. Without jealousy Arndt, Gross and Conti reveal their musical know-how and play together sometimes dreamlike ("Clap Your Hands", "Stand Up"). Sometimes the atmospheric songs remind of the collaboration of J. J.Cale with Eric Clapton or Crosby, Stills & Nash. Especially with the Conti pieces, the (claro) brine is a great sound. But again and again the musicians on "Crossing Borders" manage to create something new in cooperation. What the album lacks, however, is a real highlight.
