Only a few retro-prog bands succeed in developing their own identity, since they usually emulate great role models. Robin Armstrong's project Cosmograf also closely follows the music of Genesis ("On Which We Stand") or Pink Floyd. The result of his third publication was nevertheless successful. With the help of renowned guest musicians, including Steve Thorne, Bob Dalton (It Bites), Simon Rogers (Also Eden) and Luke Machin (The Tangent), the English multi-instrumentalist has recorded a coherent, top-produced concept album. He uses various prog clichés, but also creates a dense atmosphere - with guitars reminiscent of Steve Hackett and David Gilmour, symphonic passages and a few excursions into floydig-spherical sound worlds. The album is about getting older and tells the story from birth to death, from the first baby cry to the last heart sounds. The songs are not supercomplex, but live from variety, for example when a poem is recited in the strong title song. Convincing!
