"Oh, just whistle, and I'll come to you in a moment, my darling," is the German title of a short horror story published in 1904 by the Englishman Montague Rhodes James. The Future Kings Of England set this story about a professor who finds an old flute and conjures up an ancient demon to music on their fourth album "Who Is This Who Is Coming?". Nowadays, such stories no longer cause horror, but at most provide a nostalgic smile. Unfortunately, the British band doesn't succeed much more with their music: discreet prog/art rock, which reminds of quiet early Genesis tracks or some Steve Hackett compositions, with some spooky sounds here and there. The title track is only a radio play. In "Convinced Disbeliever" something is rocked for the first time. Minnegesang follows organ-box sounds, some voices and noises. Only the ten-minute "A Face Crumpled Linen" and "Spectacle Of A Scarecrow" convince with melancholy, pathos, elegant melodies and finely chiselled arrangements.
