It took over 20 years and more than 15 albums for The Necks to release their first LP. With "Mindset" the time has come. Accordingly, the Australian trio couldn't put a 60-minute track on the album like usual. Two 21-minute pieces instead (which also make up the available CD edition). Two tracks that present the new The Necks. Gone are the days of clearly structured minimal avant-garde jazz with endlessly repeated piano melodies, percussion loops and bass lines. These three instruments are no longer on an equal footing. The keyboards, especially the piano, now have the command. Track 1, "Rum Jungle", booms metallic, one piano layer overlays the next, spherical sounds swell up and down. Track 2, "Daylights", is more minimal: piano swabs like drops of water, knocking noises from drums and bass, which gradually form a stoic rhythm, accompanied by floating electronics. The Necks are like the John Cages or Terry Rileys of the 21st century.
