Listening to the fourth album of the Lithuanian prog band The Skys resembles a desert tour. Emotional highs and lows alternate. In one moment you don't like to go on, in the next there is a ray of hope again, whereby some oases turn out to be Fata Morgana. In other words: "Colours Of The Desert" offers melodic, technically clean pro rock with floydy keyboard surfaces, soft feel-good solos and smart vocals. However: It does not ignite continuously and sometimes turns out to be an "acoustic deception", i.e. a well made copy. From horrified amazement ("Calling Out Your Name") to appreciative benevolence ("Walking Alone", "The Pyramid"), the emotional palette you experience ranges. But when "When The Western Wind Blows" (quite skilfully) takes him into the world of Knopfler's folk-pop, it leaves the listener a bit perplexed. Worth mentioning: Jonas Ciurlionis gets vocal support from Anne Marie Helder (Mostly Autumn). Guitarist Dave Kilminster (Roger Waters Band) and saxophonist Snake Davis (Eurythmics) will also be there.
