DR. DOG - Be The Void

Kategorie: CD-Reviews | Genre: Rock, Country | Heft: Jahrgang 2012, eclipsed Nr. 139 / 4-2012 | VÖ-Jahr: 2012 | Wertung: 7/10 | Label: Anti | Autor: CA

With their sixth regular work, Dr. Dog reflect on their American roots and with it deliver a lot of allusions to such luminaries as Wilco or Bright Eyes. This means that on "Be The Void" more guitars have been integrated or can be heard than on the brilliant predecessor "Shame, Shame". With the opener "Lonesome" the six from Pennsylvania makes Mungo Jerry competition: an "In The Summertime" for the new millennium? It remains to be seen. But definitely the first big moment of this album. "These Days" is a semipsychedelic digression with highly tuned guitars. "How Long Must I Wait?" shines in a wonderful West Coast aura. "Get Away" has a certain penchant for stadium rock. "Be The Void" is big and almost overpowering - Rock'n'Roll become Americana in pure culture. Some things remain predictable, but when Dr. Dog self-confidently gains momentum and rides towards the self-painted sunset as in "Over Here Over There", this is only secondary.
