Certainly in the past it was not always easy for The Kordz to assert itself as a rock band in the Middle East. Acting out of their Lebanese hometown Beirut mainly for logistical reasons, it was hard to keep a band going. The Kordz are now internationally networked and collaborate with producers Ulrich Wilde (Deftones) and drummers Jeff Burrows (Tea Party) and Andy Curran (Soho 69). On her debut album "Beauty & The East" there are plenty of lyrical references to the current events in the Arab countries. The question, which is much more decisive for Western ears, is: Can The Kordz convince musically or do they need this exotic bonus? That they are deeply rooted in Lebanon is shown not only by the title track, which features orchestral Arab sounds. With other tracks they deal with these sound influences more discreetly. Their alternative Hardrock, which is located roughly between the Manic Street Preachers and Alter Bridge, gets a special touch and can convince throughout.
