SHARON VAN ETTEN - Tramp

Kategorie: CD-Reviews | Genre: Singer-Songwriter | Heft: Jahrgang 2012, eclipsed Nr. 139 / 4-2012 | VÖ-Jahr: 2012 | Wertung: 7/10 | Label: Jagjaguwar | Autor: CA

"Tramp" is Sharon Van Etten's third album, but certainly the first one she can fully convince as an artist. The singer-songwriter has developed step by step to where she is today. "Tramp" was realized in the studio by Aaron Dessner, an expert before the Lord, who worked on The Nationals "High Violet" shortly before. But the best production is absolutely nothing without corresponding songs, which can fully unfold in it. And Sharon Van Etten has what it takes to write just such songs. Sometimes rocky ("Serpents"), sometimes passionate ("All I Can"), sometimes mischievous ("Magic Chords") - the singer is now without a doubt a master of the high school of songwriting. And by the way she reveals herself with the brilliant performance "We Are Fine" as a feminine counterpart of Antony. Sharon Van Etten doesn't need his Johnsons, though.
