It wasn't so long ago that John Zorn gave a prime example of jazzy chamber easy listening with his "Gnostic Preludes". In the same line-up, he now plays a second album. He himself only delivers the compositions that guitarist Bill Frisell, harpist Carol Emanuel and Kenny Wollesen have translated into vibraphone and glockenspiel. In contrast to the "Gnostic Preludes", Frisell plays not only acoustic but also electric guitar and effects, which considerably expands the trio's sound spectrum. Through the harp the songs seem like a fountain of bubbling sound ideas. The whole musical architecture is very small and allows the listener to choose between micro or macro level. It tickles in your ear like an exquisite champagne.
