There are so some historical bands, whose members today are between 50 and 60, who don't have to prove anything any more and who are really starting out artistically again on their old days. In addition to Nick Cave and the Flaming Lips, the Scottish alto provocateurs of Primal Scream also belong to it. Their new album follows on from the great litters of "Vanishing Point", "XTRMNTR" and "Evil Heat": eclectic wraps that range from imaginary Stones covers to anarchic funk to languishing electro noise. Bobby Gillespie's necessary voice rolls over this unusual collage like an owl in a night flight. Nothing seems to be right on this record. But it is precisely because of this consistent breach of the rules that everything is right. Typical for Primal Scream is once again the permanent sensory overload. Each song contains the material for a complete album. The pauses between the tracks seem almost arbitrary. The whole album is based on a connecting mood, similar to the cloth on a blackboard, on which the most diverse dishes are richly served. After their last two albums, which contained rather relaxed country and pop material, Primal Scream have once again become a creative, corrosive art rock guerilla. A field they master better than most of their colleagues.
