Simon Collins, son of Phil Collins, sold more than 100,000 copies of his debut album "All Of Who You Are" (1999) in this country, but was not able to expand this success. For the Sound Of Contact project, the singer and drummer has now teamed up with US keyboardist Dave Kerzner (Kevin Gilbert, Steve Hackett) to create the excellently produced concept album "Dimensionaut", in which a space and time traveler named Dimo sets out to expand the boundaries of human experience. In keeping with the theme, the title track begins with sounds of spheres, about which Collins sings in multitrack mode (the choice of words seems like a collection of Jon Anderson's favourite terms). With the tricky instrumental "Cosmic Distance Ladder", the ballad "I Am Dimensionaut" (grandiose middle section with Collins swing!) and the 19-minute long track "Möbius Sleep", the 36-year-old can fully show his strengths as a drummer. Only shortcoming: In the very balladesque second half, he rarely shows his talent to step out of the shadow of his overpowering father. The beatlesque "Remote View" and the extremely catchy "Pale Blue Dot" have the most hit potential.
