THE ELWINS - And I Thank You

The guitars sometimes sound suspiciously like early Byrds ("Come On Out") and Beatles ("Paper In Your Pocket"), the vocal harmonies are unmistakably fed from the borrowings of the Beach Boys, the lyrics, which are less pregnant with meaning, revolve around love and relationship relations: The Elwins fish extensively in the clear waters of the sixties, which is also underlined by the playing time of less than half an hour for ten songs. The result is an all in all relaxed, lively feel-good summer album, which could also carry the title "Fun, Fun, Fun" and with which the Canadians are now also making their appearance in Europe one and a half years after the release in their homeland. And yet pieces like the single "Forgetful Assistance", "Stuck In The Middle" and "I Miss You And I", which was released in April as a single, have the potential to be heard in the editorial offices of radio stations in this country as well. At most the Lo-Fi mix deliberately chosen by producer Bill Moriarty (Blonde Redhead, Stephen Malkmus) could be an obstacle.
