Does anyone else remember the High Llamas? The band was the absolute darling of the international music press in the mid-nineties and every work of the Beach Boys rerun was celebrated as a masterpiece. If you miss this mercilessly overestimated band today, Maston is a contemporary alternative for you. Young Frank Maston and his four companions also indulge in Van Dyke Parks nostalgia, in which hiking on cotton wool trees is the highest of all feelings and the sound can't have gone away enough. That arrangement is always more important than songwriting in this kind of music should not be blamed on Maston. But a few sparkling melodic ideas would be welcome just because Van Dyke Park's Arrangemeht-Revolution is now almost 50 years old and nowadays is only original to a limited extent for a young band. Or do you just have to say: Well done? The question must be answered by the inclined listener himself.
