The Dillinger Escape Plan is on a continuous journey to playful and conceptual perfection. His new album is a masterful combination of unbridled energy and highly intricate rhythmic and harmonic constructions that can compete with any composition of New Music. What at first glance seems brute and brutal turns out to be a precisely elaborated Gesamtkunstwerk, in which guttural, narrative and melodic moments alternate and structurally complex patterns are created, which defy any conventional measure, but also allow for ballad-like moments as in the dramaturgically highly varied and for DEP amazingly accessible piece "Cross Burner". "One Of Us Is The Killer" is basically a metal album, but it appeals to a much larger audience than the common metal clientele. This firework of musical creativity, for which the term "crossover" would be a disparagement, is a recommendation for every music lover with a penchant for challenging and canonical rock experiments.
