Are there any digital sounds that Autechre has not yet generated or decomposed or synthesized? I don't think so. Sean Booth and Rob Brown will not question their raison d'être. Especially not after she just presented the 120-minute megawork "Exai" and once again created the craziest sounds and - perhaps this is still the innovative thing - after having made everything that is digitally possible possible in ever new contexts. Millisecond long hissing, crackling and clicking sounds are fused into polyrhythmic grooves. Duller tones that last a nuance longer and haven't disappeared again after you've just noticed them hardly calm you down, because the overall mood on "Exai" is hectic. Occasionally warm, piano-like sounds. Otherwise: croaking frogs or rustling insects, bubbling, spades, scratching - this music itches in your ears. She's nervous. She's fascinating. It's confusing. It's meaningless. She's unique.
