The Estonian guitarist and composer Robert Jürjendal has an eventful musical past. After his music studies (classical guitar and composition) he regularly took part in Robert Fripps "Guitar Craft" courses and also composed for chamber music ensembles, theatre productions and films. His solo debut "Rõõmu allikas - Source Of Joy" reveals the unique approach cultivated by the 47-year-old sound aesthete. The opener "Source Of Joy I" blurs tonal boundaries with dreamlike string sounds and creates a fascinating overall impression with the addition of French horn and tubular bells. The meditatively grooving "Rainsong", on the other hand, looks like the setting of a warm summer rain, while "Aeronaut" takes the listener on a trip into weightlessness. Jürjendal is also no stranger to experimental music ("The Cotter" with soft-machine flutist Geoff Leigh). At the latest when the sparkling guitar tones of "Source Of Joy III" perform a molecular dance, it's clear that a master was at work here.
