Although guitarist Bernie Marsden had never disappeared from the scene and always mixed with various Whitesnake and Rory Gallagher tribute bands and events, the sound architect of the early Whitesnake hasn't been heard from such a conclusive album for a long time. One often gets the impression with "Shine" that if David Coverdale would sing here, the whole thing could be an early classical 'Snake' work. And then Coverdale actually sings! For a new version of "Trouble", the title song of the first complete Whitesnake album from 1978, Marsden was able to lure his band boss to the microphone. This slightly bluesier version compared to the original is the key song of the album, but by no means the only track that fully convinces. The slightly pop-rocky "Walk Away", for example, hardly gets out of your head and "Kinda Wish She Would" seems to come from the third Snake album "Ready An' Willing". In addition to Coverdale, Don Airey and Ian Paice, who played with Marsden on both Whitesnake and PAL, are other old companions on this great album.
