BEYOND THE BRIDGE - The Old Man & The Spirit

The story in which the all-knowing spirit offers the old man a deal because he wants to experience the all-too-human himself was wrapped in a correspondingly exciting musical garment. Guitarist Peter Degenfeld-Schonburg and his band, which has grown to a total of seven men, already grab you with the first track "The Call". Metallic guitar riffs meet proggy seventies keyboard sounds. But that's not all. The album contains many surprises, without Beyond The Bridge seeming even a minute cranky or out of touch. Surely one hears the preference for Dream Theater again and again. But Beyond The Bridge doesn't copy. And whenever singer Dilenya Mar appears with her strong but very feminine voice, the band is original in the best sense of the word. Her vocal counterpart Herbie Langhans seems bland next to her, although his voice is technically beyond doubt. Only the somewhat musical-like passages ("The Apparition") are not so desired. Otherwise: big cinema!
