What does a band need to achieve maximum effect with minimum resources? First of all, the ability to play to one's strengths uncompromisingly. And a production that takes a no-frills basic being to the top without alienating it. All this makes up the debut album of Black Book Lodge. "Tundra" offers tons of heavy stoner rock, which despite a dark bombastic note is not afraid to reveal delicate facets - both as an icing on the cake during the rather catchy numbers of the first half and as a basic pattern towards the end, when the Danes take the pressure out and set course for psychedelic realms. This in no way detracts from the suspense. "Tundra" consists of consistently compelling songs that are noticeably based on contemporary material from Alice In Chains or Mastodon, without chumming-up. Especially tracks like "The Call" or "Cripplegate" show exemplarily how to drive dark riff monsters to the boiling point while still opening doors for unexpected contrasts.
