A richly old-fashioned hard rock album that could have been released between 1978 and 1981 rather than 2014 - that's exactly what the Swedish Black Trip intended. The quintet, led by ex-Entombed drummer Peter Stjärnvind, who plays guitar here and wrote all the songs, had been planning for several years to revive exactly this spirit of New Wave Of British Heavy Metal with a new combo. As singer and songwriter he found the Enforcer vocalist Joseph Tholl. The showpiece of the band is "No Tomorrow", a song that wouldn't have fitted Iron Maiden's debut with too much imagination. But it also shows that Black Trip are getting damn close to the spirit of that time, but that they are not really able to deliver a "Running Free". In this sense, "Goin' Under" is a joy to listen to, but when the CD is played, you don't necessarily mourn the album, even if the double-voiced guitar runs are a complete success. Maybe Black Trip would be a good support for a Tygers-Of-Pan-Tang reunion tour with John Sykes.
