Blood Red Shoes sometimes appear as if they couldn't tarnish a little water, when singer and guitarist Laura-Mary Carter performs such melodies in a naive voice. But together with her partner, drummer and singer Steven Ansell she is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Because Blood Red Shoes are really violent, fast, with creaking guitars, with great melodies. The twelve new songs on their fourth album, which was completely recorded on their own, are bursting with crashing guitars and massive drums. It's not heavy, but it's alternative rock full of power. And of course the polyphonic vocals get really dirty. The different guitar sounds surprise again and again. "Everything All At Once", "Grey Smoke", "The Perfect Mess" and "Don't Get Caught" are such songs, which captivate with their melody as well as with their guitar lines. In "Cigarettes In The Dark" the sluggish groove is convincing. The fact that Blood Red Shoes lived for months in a Berlin recording studio must have inspired her.
