An album consisting of three longtracks - here we are dealing with retroprog in pure culture. The Swedes around the two band founders Linus Kåse (keyboards, saxophone) and Kristofer Eng (bass, accordion) give free rein to their love for the melodic seventies prog brand Yes, Camel or Genesis on their fourth longplayer. You can hear these typically tricky meters, mellotron, synthesizer and polyphonic vocals and overflowing, complex compositions (especially the eleven-part 23-minute "The Rise Of Brighteye Brison"). The band has extensive soiling and also offers many attractive frills. And although the craftsmanship is quite convincing and thanks to sax and accordion splashes it also appealingly violates "normal" listening habits, the whole thing somehow seems half-baked. The most likely listener is left with "The Magician's Cave" in his ear with its theatrical character (including speech), its cool groove in the middle section and the outstanding sax solo.
