Kategorie: CD-Reviews | Genre: Electronic, Prog | Heft: Jahrgang 2013, eclipsed Nr. 151 / 6-2013 | VÖ-Jahr: 2013 | Wertung: 8/10 | Label: Kscope | Autor: JV

Bruce Soord's always somewhat gloomy musical reflections and Jonas Renkse's always depressive voice in combination - does this inevitably lead to a black hole in the soul? Far from it, the two complement each other excellently and bring surprisingly powerful, lively pieces to light with their collaboration. Whether they shred together an initially harmonious ballad dominated by acoustic guitars ("Frozen North"), try their hand at a kind of Depeche-Mode editing ("Radio Star") or take a close look at the drama suitability of ambient sounds ("The Light") - each of their songs holds positive surprises, takes unexpected turns. Renkse can sound like Peter Gabriel, who would have thought that? The accompanying song, "Pretend", creeps out of the speaker as a chimera from Genesisund / Gabriel track with Shoegaze elements. The electronic drums, which can be heard over long distances, remain a matter of taste. Otherwise, however, the following applies: (Co-)operation successful, patient alive!

Top track: Frozen North
