Buddy Whittington is one of the harder blues rockers, but on "Six String Svengali" he can convince with his singing, his solos and various ideas. A country rocker with jazzy influences ("Six String Romance"), solid blues rock ("Texas Trios", "Back When The Beano Was Boss", "Ain't Got The Scratch") and a soulful, jazz-inspired instrumental ("For Crystal Beach") avoid the "normal" twelve-bar blues pattern and show development possibilities for the style. The record is not aimed at purists, but at modern listeners who still prefer an earthy sound.
