"Faÿt" means the number five in the language of Čanki, the one-legged people who are said to live somewhere in the region between Syria and Turkey. Which brings us to Čankišou, the Czech band that is currently the most sought-after musical export of their homeland in their crazy crossover of world music, jazz, rock and avant-garde and that is now launching their fifth album with "Faÿt". With a huge range of instruments including djembe, didgeridoo, balafon, saz, bodhran, ukulele, mandolins, accordion and xylophone, the busy septet celebrates a style that could be found in the Balkans, Africa, the Near and Far East and Australia. Furthermore, "Faÿt" is full of motivation and joy of playing. For Čankišou life seems to be a long lasting party. And they are kind enough to share it with us. Hype or no hype, this is - in a positive sense - simply about the substance.
