He wanted to record a classic rock album, had announced ex- (or Noch-Immer?-) The Police guitarist Andy Summers, when he met the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rob Giles in 2012 and came to appreciate him, at that time still frontman of the little known formation The Rescues. The two were introduced to each other after a concert, got along immediately and decided to start a new project. So rock was the order of the day, including rock vocals, after Summers had recorded almost exclusively jazz and new age oriented instrumental albums for the last 20 years. But the now 71-year-old "policeman" and his much younger comrade-in-arms took their self-chosen mission seriously and recorded a mainstream rock work that would also look good on Toto or Foreigner. Even The Police are, at least musically, not too far away from Circa Zero. Vocally, however, Rob Giles orientates himself on the American AOR radio. Conclusion: "Circus Zero" has become a decent piece of music. Not earth-shattering, but quite with fire.
