Coogan's bluff fits perfectly into the drawer of the late sixties/early seventies skirt. And this is absolutely positive in the case of the Rostocker Band. On their fourth album "Gettin' Dizzy" Coogan's bluff have grown into a quintet: trombone and saxophone now listen more to the fixed inventory, which is then also used extensively: While "Why Did You Talk" or "Heart Full Of Soul" (with catchy tune) are still flawless guitar rock, fine horns adorn the grooves and riffs in the title track and in "Her Tears". Mellotron and organ sound here and there, but the guitar remains the formative instrument. Ellen James Society" is a wonderful cross between Krautrock and Postrock with an addictive trombone solo. The nine minute long "Too Late" is funky with duets of guitar and saxophone and a bass solo. In "Things I Could Do" the band even dares to pay homage to the country. The final "Chicago" is a wink, maybe a bow to Chris Howland. Coogan's bluff won't jump on the moving retro. They're steering him.
