Dirk Jan Müller has probably fulfilled a long-cherished wish with this. Under the project name Cosmic Ground the Electric Orange Keyboarder has recorded a flawless electronic album using mainly old analog equipment. The result is an authentic early to mid-seventies electronic sound that evokes highly pleasant memories of the times when Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze made their first successful steps with sequencers. Cosmic Ground is less interested in melodic guidance, but rather in subtle, grounded, mostly deep sounds and hypnotic sequences. Like an approaching ship, whose contours slowly become clearer through the fog, the sequencer sequences rise from the clouds of sound. Dirk Jan Müller remains unobtrusive. He's not exaggerating. The sonority is manageable and therefore even more effective. It's not all retro on this album: extended (sometimes too long) drones also reflect today's joy of experimentation. This is captivating cosmic music.
