Craig Taborn is a Detroit key magician who has been washed with all electronic and acoustic water. When he works as if on "Chants" in an acoustic trio, he always remains the man in the background who can unfold filigree sound and groove collages on the computer. His trio with bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Gerald Cleaver sounds so completely different from most jazz piano trios. There is none of the almost obligatory complacency that is so often found in this constellation. Taborn, Morgan and Cleaver combine relaxation with maximum concentration in an amazing way. Especially the most dense moments are at the same time the most meditative. Taborn and Cleaver often change roles, the drums become the piano and the piano the rhythm component. Thomas Morgan, on the other hand, remains stoically on his own orbit with his bass. This music sounds like jazz, but works like acoustic techno or spontaneous minimal music.
