Since 1982, London-born David Rhodes has been a permanent member of Peter Gabriel's band, where his tight rhythm guitar playing contributes decisively to the groove foundation. After he already dared a first solo excursion in 2009 ("Bittersweet"), he now pushes his second work "Rhodes", which so far could only be bought in England. Then he gathered around him Charlie Jones (ex-bassist of Robert Plant) and Ged Lynch (ex-drummer of Peter Gabriel), two experts in their field. Chris Hughes and Tchad Blake were responsible for the puristic sound, which could deter HiFi fanatics a little at first, e.g. at the obtrusive-biting guitar solo of "Grinding Wheel". In general, Rhodes' album reveals a certain closeness to David Bowie's more recent works (both vocally and musically), but also parallels to his above-mentioned boss cannot be denied ("You Are The North Wind"). But also some average songs creep in. So "Waggle Dance" is guaranteed to get every butt moving, but otherwise it is not very remarkable.
