The second longplayer of the Australians starts ambitious with the almost seven minutes long "Happenzella". They even surprise us with Southernrock-like sounds. Otherwise, they work rather metallic terrain with a snotty attitude. In the second track "Til' Death" vocalist Jake Wifen even sounds like Ozzy would often like to sound. But with all the Black Sabbath and Motörhead echoes, Dead City ruins also copper off the local heroes AC/DC and Rose Tattoo from time to time. Even a trace of Sleaze Rock with Guns-N'-Roses affinity can be recorded. D.I.B." tends in a completely different direction; there they sound atmospheric and almost New Wave-like. Fortunately, the Dead City Ruins mix these influences so cleverly that it almost never sounds like a tribute or plagiarism. The songs don't always sound conclusive except for the three tracks mentioned above. But there is a tailor-made strike with the AC/DC cover song "Rock 'n' Roll Damnation". Here it gets especially exciting, because Ugly Kid Joe's singer Whitfield Crane replaces the Wife on the microphone.
