Christoph Clöser was fused when he played a few tracks of his Club Of Gore on a grand piano during his Moscow gig. But for the recordings of the new album it should be better just a piano. A grand piano, with its superficial opulence, would perhaps have had too much of an impact on the intimate character of the Bohren-&- der-Club-Of-Gore sound, which the project has been successfully offering for twenty years now. Even though the album title emphasizes the piano, it's just another building block in the BDCOG sound cosmos, which is often referred to as the jazzy doom-metal variant and which has been composed of saxophone, vibraphone, mellotron, organ, bass and drums since the club-of-gore debut "Gore Motel". "Piano Nights" is like wading through mercury again. You'd like to go faster, but that's impossible. But there is no such thing as slow motion here, because reality itself runs in slow motion. A further dimming down, a further dragging down of tempo would mean complete standstill in this universe.
