Who plays a 30-minute guitar solo these days? In the studio, mind you. Earthless do it in the final title track of their new album "From The Ages". It starts with the quarter of an hour "Violence Of The Red Sea", which is impressive in itself, but is only a prelude for the title track: the wild guitar solo lasts 15 minutes, which is clear and elegant despite top speed, underlaid with crashing riffs and fat grooves. Of course this is mercilessly exaggerated and stereotypical, which guitarist Isaiah Mitchell (also on Howlin' Rain and Golden Void) delivers here. But it is a celebration for guitar freaks and he knows his craft excellently. At first "Uluru Rock" slows down slowly, eventually picks up the tempo and delivers one solo after the other. Singing doesn't need this music, it would simply be out of place. Finally the guitar orgy "From The Ages" follows. After 16 minutes Mitchell probably needs a break, lets the guitar howl spacy and then continues the solo.
