EDEN SHADOW - Phases

The British trio Eden Shadow presents the first longplayer after their EP "Hail" from 2012. The opener "First Phase" starts promisingly surreal with wind, dark moog and effective guitars. This is followed by appealing polyphonic singing reminiscent of the Seventies. But soon you can't ignore the drumbeat, which is much too stupid for this music. And then also some inaccuracies in the singing become noticeable. These contradictions unfortunately run like a red thread through "Phases". Again and again there is great guitar work ("Restlessness") and great keyboard sounds ("Hallucinogen") to enjoy. Also the songwriting is quite respectable and with borrowings from Metal, Folk, Electronic and Seventies-Prog à la Camel or King Crimson Eden Shadow offer some variety. All the more irritating, however, are the sometimes only satisfying performances on the heads, but above all the often unsatisfactory ones on the vocal mike. Especially the solo singing ("Restlessness", "Hope You're Happy") urgently needs to be improved.
