The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger is one of those younger bands like Foxygen, Golden Animals or Rose Windows, who have universal access to the whole rock history, but conjure up a highly individual mix. This is no coincidence, because the leader of this duo is Sean Lennon, son of John Lennon, longtime musical director of the Plastic Ono Band and member of Cibo Matto. He makes no secret of his preferences, but he also knows how to relativize them. His partner is the photo model Charlotte Kemp Muhl, who, before she met Lennon, knew the Beatles only by hearsay. It was precisely this musical immaculateness that attracted Lennon. The couple's song structures, woven with great attention to detail and great gesture, are full of allusions to the Beatles, David Bowie and Pink Floyd, but also pay homage to the spirit of Adam Green or Devendra Banhart. The tracks of the deliberately nebulously produced CD are full of ingenuity. And in spite of all historical references, listeners never feel as if they have been placed in the retro waiting loop.
