Brian Ellis from Astra recorded the album. Earthless' Carl Saff mastered it. So it's no wonder that "Light Up And Live", the debut of Harsh Toke, sometimes reminds of these two US psych bands. Harsh Toke from San Diego focus on speed and string solos. But sometimes they overdo it: The concluding ten-minute "Plug Into The Moon" is too fast, too yowling, too stupid; two guitar solos that get wildly mixed up. The other three tracks of the album offer the same style, but have more in the quiver. In the short "Rest In Fringe" an organ duels with a guitar - but you have to listen carefully to register it. The 14-minute "Weight Of The Sun" is introduced for minutes by whirling drums and flutes, before the guitar takes over the command and doesn't give up any more. Highlight is the title track: A dark riff, first presented slowly and lowered, forms the powerful basis for guitar escapades. Without a doubt, "Light Up And Live" is a promising start.
